20 Day Challenge #1: Genesis 37

biblejournaling13Read through the chapter and then go over it again and write out what you notice in your notebook. The first challenge is experimenting with bible journaling. You can use the following to guide you if you wish. If you don’t like drawing, then just write out the words in appropriate sizes or shapes.

Genesis 37:

  • Draw stickman Joseph. Label him as being 17 years old. Write out what he
  • brought back to his father in verse 2.
  • Add to your picture of Joseph what his father gave to him. Draw the faces of his ten brothers and what they thought of it all.
  • Draw the first dream that Joseph had. Write out his brothers reaction.
  • Draw his second dream. Write out his family’s reaction from verse 11.
  • Draw the circle of brothers and write out what they plotted to do in verse 20.
  • Write out Reuben’s alternative in verse 22.
  • Write out Judah’s plan from verse 27.
  • Draw the money bag of 20 shekels of silver.
  • Draw sad Jacob when he is given Joseph’s coat. Write out what he believes has happened in verse 33.

How strongly does he represent to himself the direful idea of Joseph’s misery! Sleeping or waking, he imagines he sees the wild beast setting upon Joseph, thinks he hears his piteous shrieks when the lion roared against him, makes himself tremble and grow chill, many a time, when he fancies how the beast sucked his blood, tore him limb from limb, and left no remains of him, but the coat of many colours, to carry the tidings. And no doubt it added no little to the grief that he had exposed him, by sending him, and sending him all alone, on this dangerous journey, which proved so fatal to him. This cuts him to the heart, and he is ready to look upon himself as an accessory to the death of his son. (MHC)
